Adventure on two wheels welcome to paradise

MTB Biking in the Pustertal Valley

Across the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park on two wheels

Are you a keen off-road cyclist? With its broad forest paths, old military roads and single trails laced with bumpy roots, the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park makes for an ideal off-road cycling circuit! Around Percha there are also easy cycling routes up to the Alpine huts and pastures.

Seasoned bikers would prefer to explore the more challenging mountain bike and freeride routes in the Pustertal Valley, such as on the Kronplatz (Plan de Corones), Olang or in the Ahrntal Valley. To arrive at your destination more quickly, you can take the convenient Pustertal Valley train or the cable car to shorten the ascent or the return journey. To facilitate the climbs and for longer trips, you might consider renting an E-bike.

Mountain Biking Tips: reaching proud heights on two wheels

MTB trip to the Lercher Alm and Haidacher Alm mountain huts
Follow St. Nikolausstraße road towards Platten, then cross over the small bridge until you reach the car park. Follow the road signs to “Lercher Alm” and follow the wide forest track to the mountain hut, which takes about 30 min. If you continue for another 20 min, you’ll have reached the Haidacher Alm. Return via the same route back to Oberwielenbach and to our hotel Rommisa.

The Herrensteig trail on the Kronplatz
You should take the opportunity of visiting the nearby Kronplatz (Plan de Corones) on your MTB holidays in the Pustertal Valley. The cable car takes you up to the summit from where there are several breath-taking freeride routes to choose from. The Herrensteig trail has an 8-km descent into the valley, and an altitude difference totalling 1,300 m. With these three alternatives to choose from, adrenaline thrills are guaranteed! However, these rides are limited to experienced and technically proficient bikers only!

Round trip of Bruneck
Discover the magnificent surroundings of Bruneck (Brunico) on this medium-level cycle tour. From Oberwielenbach descend through the pastures towards Wielenberg or follow St. Nikolausstraße road to Luns, and then Dietenheim as far as Aufhofen. At the church, turn off towards St. Georgen and follow the forest road to Greinwalden and Pfalzen. Once you’ve reached the Pfalzen sports area, turn left towards Fassig and Lothen before arriving at St. Lorenzen. Return via Bruneck, Percha and Wielenberg or you can take the bike shuttle, if you like. The 35 km trip lasts approx. 4 hours.

MTB Trip to the Hühnerspiel mountain
This challenging MTB tour passes the Lercher Alm mountain hut on the way to the top of the Hühnerspiel at 2,186 m. Start from the large car park between Oberwielenbach and Platten, following the signs to “Lercherhütte”. Then continue to the end of the valley and follow the signs to the “Hühnerspiel”. On the exposed sections toward the end of the valley, you need to dismount and carry your bike. Follow the long single trail no. 7 passing Tesselberg, then Gais and finally back to Bruneck (Brunico). This demanding trip lasts about 4 hours in total.
